About Luni

Kia ora and welcome to Luni! (Pron. Loon-ee)
I'm Sam, the gal behind Luni and the maker and painter of all the ceramics you see here.
I work from my garage studio, in the suburb of Ardmore, in Auckland, New Zealand.
Luni came to be during the pandemic. Like many during the lockdowns, I found myself searching for a creative outlet while stuck at home. What started as a way to pass time in my garage quickly transformed into a genuine passion for pottery that I simply couldn't put down.
Fast forward to April 2022, and Luni Pottery was officially born!

I continue to work from that same garage, though my skills have come a long way since those early days. I'm inspired by fairytales, nursery rhymes, and nature, which you can see reflected in my work. Drawing on the magical landscapes of Aotearoa (New Zealand) and my love for fantasy worlds like Middle-earth, I create ceramics that blend whimsy with natural beauty.
Each piece is made entirely by hand using a mix of techniques — including wheel throwing and hand pinching — and no two of my creations are ever quite the same. A single mug can take me anywhere from 1.5 to 5 hours to make and paint, depending on the complexity of the design, so each piece is truly special.
I hope that these pieces bring a bit of childlike wonder to all who see and use them :)
Thank you for visiting my little corner of the ceramic world 💖
xx Sam
